Steve Mermelstein rejoined Covington Associates in 2019, bringing with him extensive advisory and execution expertise focused on the life sciences sector, particularly tools and diagnostics, medical devices, and biotech. He has more than 25 years’ experience providing strategic and corporate finance advisory to senior management teams and boards of directors, executing a broad range of corporate transactions, including M&A, growth equity investments, recapitalizations, out-licensing and joint ventures.
Advising institutional-backed and middle-market companies in the life sciences sector, Steve has worked with leading strategic counterparties, including: Cordis/J&J, Danaher, ETHICON/J&J, Eurofins, LIFE Technologies, Medtronic, Novartis, Janssen/J&J, Sartorius, SeaSpine, Stryker, Thermo Fisher, Veracyte and others.
Steve most recently was a Managing Director at Huron Consulting Group where he headed Huron Transaction Advisory LLC’s life sciences investment banking practice. Previously, he was a Director at Wasserstein Perella & Co., where he was responsible for Private Equity and M&A advisory across various industries. Steve started his career at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he specialized in M&A advisory and private equity investing through Chase Capital.
Steve Mermelstein received an AB in Government from Dartmouth College and an Executive MBA in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Steve lives in Irvington, NY with his wife, four children (two away at college) and their German Shepherd/Husky mix. He spends his free time hiking the trails of the Northeast with his family, getting beaten on the tennis court by his two younger boys, and attempting the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle (in pen).
